What God Hath Promised
James selected a hymn this evening that very few (if any) of us knew. James commented on the words when he announced it--and he's right, the words areexcellent. Unfortunately, I mangled the first measure of the chorus while accompanying the group on the piano. However, I won't do it again...as I found the hymn online, and the tune is excellent also! What God Hath Promised God hath not promised skies always blue, Refrain: But God hath promised strength for the day, God hath not promised we shall not know God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Flower strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;
Never a mountain rocky and steep,
Never a river turbid and deep.
